Basic Electronic Components Introduction

Today electronic devices are made up of a large variety of components. some like resistors, capacitors, and transistors, etc. while others, such as advanced chips are extremely complex.

Electronic components have a number of electrical terminals or leads. these leads connect to other electrical components, often over the wire to create an electronic circuit and electrical circuits create useful electronic devices. electronic components can be basically classified into two types. these are active and passive components.

Basic electronic components classification

What is a Passive Components?

These electronic components are called passive because they by themselves are not capable of amplifying or processing an electronic circuit. however, passive components are as important as active components in any electronic circuit. resistor, capacitors, and inductors are called passive components.

Resistor: The component that opposes the flow of current is called a resistor.

Inductor: The electronic components which produce inductance is called an inductor.

Capacitor: A Capacitor has the ability to store energy in the form of potential differences                       between its plates.

What are Active components?

Active components are classified into two categories. these are tube devices and semiconductor devices. due to the many advantages of semiconductor devices. they are replacing tube devices in many electronic applications.
